IBM Interview Experience - Chandigarh University, Mohali - 13 September 2015
Hello everyone. This is my experience of IBM recruitment held in my university.
The process started on 13 Sept 2015 with an online aptitude test at around 9 am.
IBM has its own website for taking the test i.e identifythebest Calculator is Allowed.
It might have been mentioned in other interview experiences that they take Series and Aptitude and English test but we came across only Aptitude test having 18 questions with 2.15 minutes for each question.
Frankly speaking my exam didn't went good as the timer got finished in two questions so i wasn't able to mark them. I wasn't even expecting that i would qualify the round.
Result came out at around 4 pm because the team came in the noon itself so they conducted a pre-placement talk prior to result in which they briefed about IBM and the job they are providing and about the further process.
They announced the result at around 3.30 pm. 750 students appeared for the first round and 400 cleared the first round.
My name came in the second last list. I was shocked like how did this happened. Felt like screaming. I controlled my emotions and went for the next round.
Next was online psychometric personality assessment test. Its a normal test in which there is no right or wrong but u just have to choose from the two given situations which may suit the best on you. Even this was an elimination round.
I couldn't really identify how can this be done. Rejection based on personality assessment. May be they wanted only those who met up their set of required traits.
At around 7 pm result came out of 400 only 200 were selected.
Then came up documentation round. They collected they photocopies of all the mark sheets and resume and a government id proof.
NOTE- Carry photocopies of ALL your mark sheets from 10th till 6th semester and govt id proof (PAN, Aadhar, DL, PP, BANK)
This was the day one of their process which ended at around 11 pm.
Next day was interview. Only HR interview. Seems easy to clear but it wasn't. It commenced at 9am and my turn came at 3.30pm. You have to keep patience and don't loose your energy.
Believe me before lunch a long list came of 98 students who were rejected. So it means that you have to be very particular in the HR as they don't hire just anyone in their team.
These were my questions of HR
1. So Aashish, Introduce yourself !
TIP - if the interviewer has already told your name then please don't repeat your name by saying "Sir I am Aashish blah blah". He already knows your name. Start from your current education to your background. And don't even tell your hobbies strengths training etc etc. its all written in your resume.
2. Why ECE. (I am from ECE branch) ?
TIP - be conscious in this. Trust me many people give a wrong impression in this ques. Just tell about the vastness of ECE in IT and advantages of being an ECE as ECEs are have hands on on h/w and s/w.
3. Why IBM ?
TIP - now here. Many rejections were caused because of this questions. Folks, trust me they don't enjoy listening Wikipedia facts and figures. They know its 104 year old it has 5 noble prizes. out 200 more than 100 people just told the facts and figures written on wiki to the interviewer and obviously there comes a height of getting same answers from all. Just go beyond the numbers. They are the leaders of IT. They don't want any absurd answers. They want IBM to be praised in the most unique ways.
4. Why IBM is a leader ?
This question was asked because I answered above question by including a line that IBM is the leader of Innovations.
5. Why are you a leader?
This because my in my resume I mentioned that I am a strong leader.
6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?
TIP- be creative. Don't talk about salaries or positions.
7. How much experience you have in Redhat ?
I am Redhat Certified so it was a benefit to me as they want people with hands on experience in Linux/Unix.
Compliment by Him: You have also made a project on RISC. Good!
This because RISC was developed by IBM.
8. Any Questions ?
TIP - Always ask questions. Show them that Yes you are eager to work for IBM and want to know more about it. But don't ask absurd things like when will my salary increase, etc.
Interview went for around 15 minutes. Results were very quick in this round. Result came out in 5 minutes and i was one of them.
They got signed a declaration form and took bio-metric scans of LEFT and RIGHT index fingers. If this happens with you then its confirmed that you are selected.
At last out of 200 only 60 got selected or I would say out of 750 i.e only 8% of the total.
Their might be other companies also like TCS, Infy, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, etc who may take around 20-30% of the total crowd but trust me you will be doing the relevant stuff and working with only the handpicked skilled people in IBM as compared to others. So target IBM. Prepare Hard.
-- Why you at IBM is also a frequently asked question. Many people were asked this.
-- Be ready to justify your interpersonal skills , strengths and hobbies.
-- Even if it is HR round you can also be unexpectedly asked some Technical Questions.
-- IBM wants confident, proactive, spontaneous, clever and hungry for IBM people.
-- Rejection rate is high. Be careful in every round.
-- Be confident on yourself.
