Robert Bosch Interview Experience - Bangalore, 7th Dec 2014


Hi,

I'm Manju Prakash from Shimoga. 

I attended RBEI off-campus drive held on 7th December 2014 (Written Test) & 12-13th January 2015 (Interviews) which was conducted by CareerNet Consulting Bangalore, and successfully cleared the interview process and now working there.

The job profile was for Associate Software Engineer (Electronics and related). Branches permitted were E&C and Electrical (And related). Cut off criteria was 70% aggregate throughout 10th, 12th, and B.E/B.Tech 2014 batch.

At least 600-700 candidates attended the written test. Out of which, 54 candidates were shortlisted for the Technical Interview. Finally 18 were selected.

Selection Process:

1. Written Test (Offline): Out of 60 questions, 35 from Technical and 25 from Aptitude, with Negative marking. It was held at CareerNet consulting office.

2. Technical Interview: Only 1 round . It was conducted at Bosch office, Bangalore.

3. HR Round: Conducted only for those who cleared TI.


Coming to the Written Test, topics covered were same as those shared by Abhishek Kachhwal. In fact, almost 80% of questions were from these topics. Most of the questions were about conceptual understanding. To my surprise, there was only 1 question from C programming. However, there used to be at least 6 questions from C programming in previous RBEI drives. Aptitude was easy.

Even after 15 days, we were not intimated about the results. I lost hopes. But after almost a month, I received a mail mentioning Interview date and venue. 54 candidates were shortlisted and I was happy to be one among them.


Technical Interview:

Interview was conducted at Bosch office, Koramangala. There was only one interviewer. It started by introducing myself. As mentioned in other posts, you would be questioned about each and every word in the Resume. It is good to mention about mini projects and Internships, if any.

Interviewer asked me about my project. He asked questions like why you used this particular component and all. He asked me about ATMEGA controller (From project). I explained each and every bit in the project.  He was convinced.

He asked me to write a simple C program. Program was to take a user input and print something based on simple if/else conditions. Later I found that many candidates were asked to write the same program. :)  After joining Bosch, at least initially, most of the freshers would be deployed in coding. So they expect a fair level of programming knowledge.

Then he asked me some questions from Electronics basics. Like

Differences between uP and uC.

Architecture of 8051 

What are Interrupts?

What is an Embedded System?

What are Storage Classes in C?

Special features of ATMEGA micro controller (From project)


I was asked to design a Control System to control Room temperature. I wrote a block diagram and explained it. He was convinced and asked me how you would measure the temperature. I told that I would use a Sensor. He nodded his head and was about to ask next question. After a few seconds, I told that I would use a Thermometer, with a poker face. Both of us laughed. :P

He asked me about my College and my background. He asked me: "Would you leave Bosch if u get an Offer for R&D in any other company?I was expecting this question and told him that Bosch is the dream company of any E&C graduate and started praising Bosch, its spark plug and all. He laughed and told me: "If you have to leave, you must notify within 1 month. I smiled.

He gave me a form to fill and told me to wait for the HR Round.

Many got rejected in TI because of poor knowledge in basics and C.


HR Round:

This round is to check for your level of confidence and your passion for work. Don't neglect this round. Be prepared to answer questions like: about hobbies, your strengths, Co curricular activities, why should I hire you? Etc. Also visit Bosch portal and know more about the company. 

Even before introducing myself, Interviewer asked me if I had attended Bosch Interview before. I said NO. He asked the same question again and I answered NO. This was to test the level of confidence. He asked me to explain my project. (To test Communication skills) And asked me why your marks in 7th Sem is low (It was less than 66%). I said that we concentrated on our project.

I had mentioned about the mini projects I had done using C++ in the Resume. He asked me to rate my knowledge in C++. I rated 4 out of 5. He was puzzled and told: "Even after 3 years of industrial experience, one would not rate 4/5 in C++. I explained him about the mini projects, my activities on online coding platforms. He nodded his head without any expression. This time, I was puzzled. :)

Remember, they expect confidence from you, not over confidence. Be careful while rating your knowledge and all.

I made a mistake by mentioning about my Offer Letter from TCS. He repeatedly asked about the same. I told that I would always love to work in Core companies like Bosch. Yet, he was not convinced. I would say, it is better, not to mention about your other offer letters. Also say NO to higher studies. :)

After a week, I was glad to receive a mail with the subject "Bosch Offer Letter". I joined Bosch on 28th Jan.
